A Huntsman Spider in My House…Book Description
A Huntsman Spider in My House features a young girl concerned about a Huntsman spider appearing in her room. Rather than react immediately to kill the spider, as commonly taught by society, she finds another way—catching the Huntsman instead and then releasing it outside to let it live and support the ecosystem of Australian fauna. The little girl’s actions show that insects are important, necessary, not so scary, and support the world too.
EEEK!! I know what your thinking right…Ewww gross!! Yea, I did too, until I actually read the book with my girls! After the first few shrills of fear, they uncovered their eyes and slowly calmed down and listened to the story…lol! By the end they were less afraid of these critters. Mostly because I said they live in Australia, but any way, they calmed down, hahaha!
We talked about our little critter neighbors and the girls are now more open to the why? Why? did God created them? What purpose do they have besides being very scarey? This book, in a huge way, sparked a big convo with them on all insects and their purposes, so this will be our next unit study, then we can really dive deep and learn more.
I’ve always heard the more you know and understand the things that may seem scarey the less they really are. It probably doesn’t help that mommy has arachnophobia either. So yes I will be facing one of my fears as well. In all honesty though the spiders we live with here in Indiana are ants in comparison to those around the world (very thankful for this btw).
So if you and your little ones are looking for a book to help beat the fear of spiders or even if you are looking for an endearing yet informative book to read to your kids you can head over to www.littleaussiecritters.com.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.
