Suggested use of Free Saint Patrick’s Day Preschool Learning Binder

Number Recognition/Counting Playdough Mats

These are multipurpose mats. They will help with number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence & fine motor skills. I created 2 sets of these, one with pictures in the boxes for help in counting and one set with nothing in the boxes for the child to count themselves. The number in the top left can be used with Playdoh practice forming the number. For the bottom half – have the child place that number of buttons, pom poms etc. in the squares below. If you are using the set with the picture in the boxes have them place something on top of each picture as they count.

Leprechaun, Pot O’ Gold, Shamrock patterns

Cut out the Leprechauns, Pots O’ Gold & Shamrocks. (print on cardstock & laminate for durability) start a pattern for your child and have them tell you what one, two or three pictures come next. i.e. in a pattern of 1 leprechaun, 2 shamrocks, 1 leprechaun – what comes next? – 2 shamrocks. If they don’t get it, no worries just do a simpler pattern, they will eventually work their way up to doing harder patterns.

Lower/Uppercase Alpha Rainbow Match

Cut out rainbows & cut along the line in the center. Mix them up & have your child match the uppercase letter with the lowercase letter. Optional- Laminate and glue magnets to the bottom of each section & use on a metal cookie sheet or surface.

Shamrock Color Word Match

Cut out the shamrocks and have your child match the color with the correct color word either using the hint of color shamrocks or the words with no color at all for a bit of a challenge.

Scissor Skill Practice

Two sheets included but you can print off as many as you need. Have the child cut along the lines from one side to the other to fine tune those scissor skills and fine motor skills.

Shamrock Pre-writing Skill Practice

Print these out and use with page protector so you can use them again & again. Have the child start at the shamrock and trace along the dotted line, trying to stay as straight as possible all the way to the end.

Shamrock Upper/Lowercase Clothespin Match

Find the lowercase that matches the big uppercase letter at the top. To do this your child can draw a line from the uppercase to the lowercase, circle the lowercase letter or you can cut them out and the child can use a clothespin to identify the correct match.

Saint Patrick’s Day – See, Trace, Write

The idea of these is that the child will see the word & a picture, then trace the word then try to write it on their own. To make these last you can laminate them or put them in page protector sheets and use with dry erase markers.

Shamrock Number Word Match

Cut out the shamrocks and match the number with the number word. Bonus shamrocks with dots for counting practice too.

Tip: I highly recommend printing most of these out on cardstock with the exception being the scissor skills sheets. I also suggest laminating and/or using a page protector for prolonged use. The activities with small pieces, print on cardstock, laminate and maybe even hot glue a magnet on the back so they can be used on a metal surface or cookie sheet.

A great way to store them is in labeled freezer bags so you can grab them for an activity on the go and store them easily when Saint Patrick’s Day is over. Be sure to put whatever manipulative you might need too, like the clothespins for the clothespin match.
