When I became a new mom almost 13 years ago, I thought I had it all figured out! I truly thought I had to have every device and safety gadget, 10 of every color of onesie, all the cutest baby clothes, 50 bibs and 10,000 newborn size diapers. While it may seem like you go through that many diapers in the newborn stage you would be amazed that really they grow sooooo fast. So make sure you buy a couple sizes up too.
So I was the newbie mom who read every piece of new baby info I could get my hands on. I watched every reality TV show that showed births and the first few days after taking the baby home, so I pretty much was an expert. Right?! Not to mention every single woman I know or randomly meet anywhere during my pregnancy had tons of unsolicited advice and horror stories for me. You know the ones… “I was in hard labor for 48 hours and ripped from ear to ear when the baby finally came out… ugh!” Really?! Please if you had a hard time in labor, DO NOT tell the poor newbie pregnant mama about it!! PLEASE?!
So since then, I have relaxed a bit and become a lot more practical. With my next 2 babies, I knew what I needed and what was unnecessary.

My top 5 New Mom Must-Haves
1- A Bottle Warmer
Must have! I had one that you could use at home and one you could use in the car for when we were on the go. Cause when baby wants to eat, baby wants to EAT (!) So you really can’t plan your life around every 2-hour eating schedule without having to go somewhere right?! Also, I have found these awesome ready to feed baby bottles by Ready Made, that are easy to just pop in the bag and go when you are in a rush, which is like ALWAYS! Just pop off the outer cap, and formula milk will flow into the nipple, no assembly, no mixing, no mess, YES!
2- A Diaper Genie
You will be thankful you have this wonderful gadget if you are using disposable diapers. You can fill this thing with like a hundred diapers before you have to empty it and never spell a thing! Loved it! I had a regular diaper pal too and every time you would have to open it, it would fill up the whole room with diaper aroma… bleck! No thanks, I would rather have it be fresh, no mess and compressed with the diaper genie.
3- Stroller/Carseat Combo
If you travel a lot you will want this! Especially nice for all those baby doctors appointments in the first few months. If you have never seen or heard of a Stroller/ Car seat travel system, basically what they are is a matching stroller and car seat that connect for easy use. You just pop the car seat out of the car and pop it securely into the stroller and stroll on into the mall or the restaurant or anywhere your little heart desires.
It really is way better! Carrying the car seat on your arm is fine, but I’m here to tell you, it gets old and the baby gets bigger and your back and arms get sore. So look into this one mama if you want to make your life simpler.

4- Travel Baby Swing
OK, so like I said earlier, I thought I needed every gadget that you could buy, well I had a travel swing and a home swing…duh! Why?! Now that I look back on it what a waste of space and money. Just get a travel swing and use it at home. These are great for keeping the baby entertained and also eek… I used them a lot just to get some sleep. My first born was so fussy, she needed movement, so the swing saved my life!
5- Pacifier
Now, mama, you are going to see people cringe, (usually grandma) when they see you put a pacifier in your new babies mouth. Listen closely… You do what you gotta do to keep your sanity! You are not hurting your baby by giving them a pacifier, or whatever they may say. Now if you want to breastfeed, try to not do it as often, simply because you want to try to get the baby to latch so you don’t want to give them an easy latching item (the pacy) and then a difficult to latch item the breast.
So I would hold off a little more if you are breastfeeding and if you do use the soothie type pacifiers (the one linked above) are the best for breastfeeding moms. This is my opinion only. Every baby is different and every mom is different. So you do what works best for you and your baby.
Well, those are my top 5 new mom must-haves, but of course, not all that you need, unfortunately.
Here’s a few little tips, one mom to another…
When the baby is born – sleep! Sleep when the baby sleeps and spend lots of cuddle time breathing in all that new baby smell in the first few months, cause it goes so fast and you will miss these days. Also, just relax and before you know it you will have a good solid routine down and feeling like a pro! Lots of love and blessings for you and your little one.

These are great, but for me, my sanity saver was my carrier. My son wanted to be carried all.the.time. If it wasn’t for my carrier, I wouldn’t have been able to get anything done!
