Like most homeschool families our family enjoys the audio dramas of Adventures in Odyssey. Audio dramas have been a huge asset to the homeschooling community for several years now. I love how they grasp the attention and spark the imagination in a way that no other media can provide. Every child sees the actual movie being played out in their imagination in a different way.
We recently had the honor and privilege to listen to an audio drama that was written and created by a 12 year homeschooler, Robert Thacker, called “A Search for Truth”. It was the winner of 2013’s Quest for the Golden Script. Amazing, the talent of this young boy!
Here is the synopsis for A Search for Truth:
Sent off to his uncle’s farm, Zac clashes with his cousin Penelope as they grow a mutual dislike for each other, even while Zac is slowly discovering the truth of creation embedded in nature for himself. But will his dislike for Penelope be enough to drive him away from God completely?
My Thoughts:
Love, Love, Love this story!
I was amazed that this was written by a 12 year old, wow! Great Job Robert! Loved everything about it. I fell in love with the little girl who was so bold in talking about God in a loving way to her cousin who was so close to completely shutting God out of His life. In this story you will find questions, answers, truth, love, adventure and more. The characters, the story, all of it was just a delight to listen to.
Recommended for ages 8 and up.
The Breakdown:
It is a creation based story, chock full of rich scripture lessons! Sadly, Zac is just like thousands of other teenagers raised in a Christian home, without really knowing Christ. They walk the walk and talk the talk daily, but have not truly taken the heart change to truly know, trust and love Christ. So many kids these days grow up with a distaste for being a Christian because they never really were, they only were forced to follow the parents. We as parents need to truly be doing a heart check daily in our children and leading them to the love of Christ not to religion, because religion cannot save them only Jesus can.
Penelope is the cousin who was raised in Christian home and truly believes and knows Christ for herself. I love how her character explains creation and our creator to Zach. I will definitely be looking out for more Robert Thacker in the future.
