Brrrrr… it’s been cold. Well, at least every other week anyway. Getting stuck inside in the winter, we all know that you cannot have enough winter crafts. We did finally get some snow last week and so we had a snow day in our homeschool.
Why not right?
So during our day off, we made pretty coffee filter snowflakes. These were inspired by The Artful Parent. We have made many snowflakes before but never thought of using a coffee filter, brilliant. Although we have made Coffee Filter Butterflies before.
Jordan, my 5-year-old and I made snowflakes literally all day long, off and on. It was quite fun and rather therapeutic really. We snip, snip, snipped away all day long. I finally had to hide the scissors so I could get other things accomplished for the day.
There are two ways to make these colorful coffee filter snowflakes. So here is the first way.
Watercolor Coffee Filter Snowflakes
Supplies Needed:
- Coffee Filters
- Scissors
- Watercolor Paint
- Paste (optional for hanging in the window)
You can paint before or after you cut the snowflakes, but we painted the whole coffee filter first then let them dry completely. Next, you fold the snowflakes a few times and cut shapes in the edges. No two snowflakes are alike, so be random. We had some really cool snowflakes by the time we were done.
Here is the finished product of the Water Color Snow Flake.
Washable Marker Coffee Filter Snowflakes
Supplies Needed:
- Coffee Filters
- Washable Markers
- Scissors
- Spray Bottle Filled with Water
- Paste (easiest way to hang in the window)
Okay, the second way to make these beauties is using washable markers. Color the whole coffee filter with random colors and shapes. Then lightly spray the whole coffee filter to bleed the colors together. Let dry then fold a few times and snip just like the watercolor snowflakes. Easy Peasy!
We then hung them in the front window and on our slider in the back. The easiest way to do this is put a bit of paste all over the back and stick it where you want them displayed. I don’t ever want to take them down they are just soooo pretty.
What fun crafts have you made with coffee filters?
