As the leaves start to fall and the air cools, it’s the perfect time to slow down and seek God. Just stop and take a breath, mama. The busyness of life is always calling—the laundry pile, the endless to-do list, and the pressures of keeping everything running smoothly. But here’s the truth: the laundry can wait. The to-do list will still be there tomorrow. Right now, it’s time to pause, sip that warm cup of coffee, seek God, and soak in these fleeting moments with your children. They’re growing so fast, and these days are precious.
In the hustle of daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos. But the Bible reminds us to pause and reflect on what truly matters. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2). When we focus on the eternal and let go of the small, daily stresses, we can find peace in God’s presence.

10 Simple Ways to Slow Down and Seek God this Fall
Take this season to focus on the blessings that surround you. Whether it’s the sound of your kids laughing, the warmth of their little hands in yours, or the quiet moments of stillness in the early morning, the crunch of leaves as you walk, these are the treasures God has given you. Don’t let them slip by unnoticed. Here are some ideas to pause and reflect this fall.
Go for a Prayer Walk in the Crisp Autumn Air
Going for a prayer walk in the crisp autumn air is one of my favorite ways to connect with God. There’s something about the crunch of leaves underfoot and the cool breeze that just quiets my soul. As I walk, surrounded by the beauty of the changing season, I pour out my heart to Him, and it feels like all the distractions of life just fade away. The rhythm of walking, combined with the peacefulness of nature, helps me focus on listening for His voice. It’s also a beautiful reminder of God’s creativity and all the things I’m grateful for.
Light a Candle and Write Scriptures in a Notebook
Writing His Word by candlelight can be such a peaceful and intentional way to connect with God. I like to make different sections in my notebook, like faith, healing, and marriage. When I’m facing something difficult in one of those areas, I can flip back to the verses I’ve written and read them again and again. There’s something so powerful about speaking those scriptures out loud, using them to combat the enemy and stand firm in the truth of God’s Word. Writing by candlelight brings a sense of calm, helping me focus and letting His Word sink even deeper into my heart.
Start a Prayer Journal and Slow Down and Seek God
Starting a prayer journal has been such a game-changer for me, helping me learn to focus and really hear God’s voice. I like to write down my prayers and thoughts in black ink, but if I feel Him speaking to me, I use red or another color. This simple habit has done wonders in training me to tune in to His voice more clearly. It’s amazing to look back and see how He’s answered prayers or guided me in ways I might not have noticed. And when life feels overwhelming, those moments of gratitude written down remind me of His constant faithfulness. It’s become such a special part of my day—it’s a recorded personal conversation with God on paper.

Create a Fall Bucket List for Your Family
Creating a fall bucket list for your family is such a fun way to embrace the season and make memories together. Whether it’s picking out the perfect pumpkin, taking a hike to enjoy the fall colors, or having a cozy movie night with apple cider, there’s something about these little seasonal traditions that brings everyone closer. I love sitting down with the family, brainstorming all the fun things we want to do, and writing them out. It’s a great way to get everyone involved and excited about spending intentional time together, and it turns the simplest moments into lasting memories.
Take a Break and Do Nothing
Yes, this is an actual idea! Taking a break and doing nothing can be one of the most refreshing ways to slow down and seek God. Set aside 10-60 minutes, close your eyes, and simply rest in God’s peace. In the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget the importance of being still. Let Him renew your spirit as you sit quietly, with no agenda, no distractions—just you and God. It’s in these quiet moments that you can truly feel His presence, allowing His peace to wash over you and recharge your soul.
Baking and sharing a treat with your neighbors is a thoughtful way to spread kindness and build community. Whipping up a batch of cookies, muffins, or even a loaf of homemade bread, and taking the time to deliver it to someone nearby, can really brighten their day. It’s a simple gesture that shows love and care—plus, who doesn’t enjoy an unexpected treat? Sharing homemade goodies can help you connect with your neighbors and foster a sense of gratitude and volunteering in your community. You might even start a new tradition!
Listen to Worship Music and Rest in His Peace
Listening to worship music is such a powerful way to shift the atmosphere and defeat the enemy with praise. When life feels heavy or overwhelming, turning on some worship can completely change your focus and remind you of God’s goodness. As you lift your heart in praise, it silences the lies of the enemy and strengthens your spirit. Singing out truths about who God is and what He’s done is a beautiful way to stand firm in faith, even in the hardest moments. Praise has a way of breaking through the darkness and filling your heart with peace and hope.
Two scriptures that really capture the power of praise are Psalm 149:6, “May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands,” and Psalm 27:1-6, which speaks about God as our light, salvation, and stronghold, giving us no reason to fear. These verses remind us how praise is a weapon against the enemy, strengthening us in every battle.
In fact, that’s how my blog and homeschool got their name, Kingdom First Homeschool (now Kingdom First Motherhood). We would start every day of school with praise and worship, based on Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” It became the foundation for everything we did, and it still is today!
Start Having a Weekly Family Devotions Night
Starting a weekly family devotion night is a powerful way to slow down and seek God together, bringing everyone closer and refocusing on what truly matters—our spiritual lives. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle. Setting aside one evening a week for family devotion creates a special time to connect, pray, and dive into God’s Word. It shifts our focus from daily distractions back to the spiritual things that truly matter. Whether you keep it simple by reading a Bible story or go deeper with discussions and prayers, it’s a chance to share your faith as a family and strengthen those bonds. Plus, it teaches your kids that no matter how hectic life gets, there’s always time to slow down, seek God, and grow together in Him.
Do a Nature Study with Your Kids
Doing a nature study with your kids is a fun and hands-on way to explore God’s creation together. It’s a simple way to slow down, step outside, and really appreciate the beauty and intricacies of the world He made. Whether you’re collecting leaves, studying bugs, or observing the changing seasons, these moments help foster curiosity and gratitude for His creation. And if you’re homeschooling in the fall, this is a perfect addition to your lessons! Nature studies can spark deep conversations about God’s creativity and design, making it a meaningful way to blend both learning and faith. Plus, it gives you a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the fresh air together!
End Your Day with Psalm, Prayer and Reflection
Before you drift off to sleep, take a few moments to slow down and seek God, thanking Him for the day, no matter how busy or slow it was, and cover your home, sleep, and family in prayer.
Reading a Psalm before bed is such a powerful yet peaceful way to end the day. When everything else quiets down, letting God’s Word be the last thing on your mind brings a sense of calm that’s hard to find anywhere else. Psalms like Psalm 91 and Psalm 23 are perfect to start with. Psalm 91 reminds us that God is our refuge, our safe place, no matter what we’re facing. And Psalm 23 is like a warm hug, reminding us that He’s our shepherd, always guiding us and caring for us, even when life feels tough. As you read, you can just feel His peace wash over you, knowing He’s right there holding you as you drift off to sleep.
But what do you do when you’re lying there in the dark, and everyone else is sound asleep? Then it begins—the attack of the foreboding thoughts. This happens to me all the time. I wake up at 3 am. I’ll start to worry and wonder, with all the “what ifs” and horrible scenarios flooding in—what I call the Mind Monsters. When that happens, I hold on to Philippians 4:8-9, which tells us to fix our minds on what is true, honorable, and praiseworthy. Speaking those truths out loud helps push those thoughts away and lets God’s peace settle in. It’s not always easy, but it’s a powerful way to battle the enemy’s lies in those quiet, vulnerable moments. And reading the Psalms or praying stops this from happening most nights.
Seek God in the Everyday Moments
As you slow down this fall, take time to seek God in the everyday moments. Whether it’s during your morning coffee or while folding laundry, invite Him into your day. Jesus often retreated to quiet places to pray and connect with His Father, reminding us how important it is to seek God’s presence in our own busy lives.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). When we turn to God, we find the rest and renewal our souls desperately need. Let this fall be a season where you take time to pray, reflect, and let God’s peace fill your heart.
Let Go of the Hustle
It’s tempting to keep pushing through your never-ending to-do list, but fall invites us to slow down and refocus. Let go of the hustle, and instead, breathe in this season of life. God has given you these moments—don’t rush through them. Take time to enjoy God, your family, and your home.
As you make the decision to slow down and seek God fall, let your heart turn toward gratitude. Focus on how blessed you are, mama. Take a deep breath, soak in the little moments, and set your mind on things above.
