“Yikes…I don’t have the patience to homeschool my kids!” was one mother’s reply when I mentioned the fact that I homeschool. And as a homeschooling mom of 3, my thoughts were…
Neither do I!
Whenever I tell anyone that I homeschool, the most common reaction to that is simply this “Wow really, I don’t have enough patience to do that”.
I Don’t Have the Patience to Homeschool
I have heard this time and time again. But I am here to set the record straight about a couple misnomers.
Psst…Let me let you in a little secret, I don’t have the patience to homeschool either. No one has enough patience to homeschool. I fail often and lose my patience most of the time (yep really working on it).
We were all Called to Teach our Children
If you are a mom you are kinda a homeschool mom too. After all was it not you who taught them to walk, talk, eat, etc?
Oh, and what about the 1-3 hours of homework you work on with your kids every night? Do you have enough patience to get through that? My guess would be not always. That is why I am so thankful for Grace.
If this is what is stopping you from getting started homeschooling, trust me you will be just fine! The Mom Tool Shed
God has provided all moms with the tools and gifts they need to properly prepare each child for their future. He has given us enough Grace to get us through each day and new mercies every morning. Every child is different and every parent is gifted properly. You are lacking nothing as a parent, it is there somewhere you just have to find it within.
I just want to encourage all you moms who think that just because we “homeschool” we have superpowers or something (hahaha) that really isn’t so. We are just moms, as unperfect and unsure as you are trying to do God’s perfect will in our children’s lives through His Grace and for His Glory!
Encourage Each Other in Motherhood
So next time a mom tells you she homeschools just know that she is not trying to make you feel insignificant or uncomfortable, she is just simply stating that that is what she is called to do, just as you are doing your calling for your precious kiddos too.
I want to remind all of you to encourage each other and stay on the path that God has placed you on.
Never look at someone’s path and try to duplicate it, because God hasn’t given you the gas or the right vehicle to make it down that road. Stick to your personal roadmap and you’ll make it just fine through that terrain.

This is a great post. I am in my last year of homeschooling. Oh, how many times have I heard THAT patience line. I agree with you, we ALL teach our kids, some of us just choose to educate them formally. And I am so not a teacher…but that’s not why I chose to commit 18+ years. I wanted to instill my values. It’s a tough gig, but I wouldn’t change a thing. My hat is off to you and all those who choose this path.

This blessed me today. We entered our 13th year of home educating this year and some days are not my best but His best is what we strive for. I am thankful that I have not had to do it alone. Glad I found you!
